The company C.I.M.E.P. –(Commercio Industria Marmi e Pietre) Trade Industry Marble and Stones – dates back to 1949 because of the desire of the lawyer Antonio Conversi, who gave life to a company, having as its main purpose, extracting, processing and marketing the famous stone since the Roman Empire lapis tiburtinus, today called (Travertino Romano) Roman Travertine stone.

CIMEP History: the lawyer Antonio Conversi

Therefore, the Conversi family tradition was renewed, a tradition that dates back to the early '900’s and operated in the business of supplying vast amounts of Travertine stone, that are still visible today in the (Palazzo di Giustizia di Roma) Court House in Rome. The material which is present in abundance on their own grounds, located between Bagni di Tivoli and Guidonia Montecelio, allowed for the development of important work during the '50s and the '80s, among which we can mention the construction of the old Olympic Stadium in Rome, the former stadium S. Paolo in Naples, Via della Conciliazione in Rome, The Ministry of Merchant Marine in Rome and other prestigious Italian works that are still here for everyone to see.

Over the years, thanks to very good management, CIMEP has expanded the selling of its products abroad, reaching markets in places like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Japan, Germany, Tunisia, Lebanon, France, The United States, Venezuela, Poland, Switzerland and Holland, as well as new emerging markets.

CIMEP History: crane in our quarry

Today the extension of the excavation basins granted to CIMEP, which make use of multi-year excavation permits both regional and municipal with respect to the strictest laws, covering an area of over 140,000 square meters on two quarries known as "Longarina" and "Bernini". The latter, especially, has a major historic value, because it was one of the quarries that Bernini selected material from to build the famous (colonnato di Piazza S.Pietro ) The Colonnade of St. Peter's Square in Rome in 1500.

To such a testimony of what still exists today and is owned by us called "Casal Bernini", which in the past would have served all workers and technicians as shelter and coordination during the extraction phase and the selection of blocks subsequently used for the construction of the colonnade.

CIMEP History: Casal Bernini

The large quantity and high-quality material is still present in its quarries and allows CIMEP continuity of safe production in appreciable time by major construction companies and architectural firms, as well as being a valuable reserve for many years to come for CIMEP. The quarries are now cultivated with the latest machinery for excavation, transport and the final preparation of the blocks, marketed in Italy and abroad with an increasing trend of requesting the raw materials sooner.

CIMEP History: our squaring sectionIn addition to the quarries, today CIMEP, has two areas for the stages of sawing, manufacturing and completion of the extracted Travertine. The first area of approximately 15,000 square meters is where the wires for squaring and storing the blocks are located, the second area of approximately 25,000 square meters is where the processing and finishing plants are located.

In the plant there is a lot of high-production machinery to perform cutting and various manufacturing of the materials according to the most stringent quality criteria set by the standards of ISO 9001-2000 which the company is duly certified by.

Thanks to the sophisticated and well-organized areas, in recent years it has been possible to produce the materials used for the CIMEP History: view of our depositconstruction of the (Capitaneria di Porto) Harbor Masters office in Fiumicino (Rome), new churches in Rome, the headquarters of the NORD / LB bank in Hanover, some of the most important buildings in Berlin, including the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maritim Hotels, the Shell Building as well as some of the most important buildings of the new Zurich and Allianz Headquarters in Frankfurt, and most recently the material for the coating of a complex of five buildings a few meters from the "Brandenburg Gate" was provided.

The different qualities of our own production of travertine stone, from light to classic, from honey to walnut, are welcomed in the various markets where CIMEP works. Currently CIMEP is still run by the Lawyer’s sons, and now the grandchildren have joined the group, thus maintaining a very strong family tradition.
